Whether you live in Embrun, Stittsville, or anywhere in-between, there’s no denying that the Ottawa area is home to all sorts of exciting events year-round. With the kids back to school and the last days of summer winding down, September is a busy month for many. However, there are many great ways to unwind and have fun in your downtime. Let’s take a look at some events happening this month in the Ottawa area, many of which can be found near Valecraft communities!
Marvest (September 14 to 15)
Looking to get to know the heart and soul of Ottawa and make new friends? Be sure to stop by Marvest! This offshoot, smaller version of Ottawa’s famous Cityfolk music festival is easily accessible by OC Transpo or car from Valecraft communities like Deerfield Village 2! Located in the heart of the Glebe, the shows on offer are as earthy and organic as the lifestyle in this popular neighbourhood, featuring locally produced music. Marvest — otherwise known as a musical harvest — is all about bringing families and friends together to enjoy local talent and make lasting memories. Take a look at their schedule today to plan for your musical night out!
CityFolk (September 12 to 16)
Speaking of Marvest, you can’t forget the ever-popular CityFolk festival, the 25th iteration of which is happening at Lansdowne Park! With plenty of fun activities, food aplenty and some of the best live shows around, this is another festival you should have on your list of must-dos. There’s a great lineup planned for this year too, with special guests such as David Byrne, Hozier, and Lindi Ortega, just to name a few, covering everything from folk to rock and much more!
Mosaïculture Gatineau 2018 (Until October 15)
Whether you hop on the bus from Ottawa South or take a drive out with the family from Valecraft’s own Place St. Thomas in Embrun, a few hours experiencing Mosaïculture Gatineau 2018 will open the doors to inspiration, excitement and wonder! This popular outdoor horticultural event has been well-received in cities such as Montreal, consisting of incredible flower and shrubbery arrangements that are shaped into massive sculptures. Wander the kilometre-long loop to discover beautiful horticultural displays — just don’t forget your camera! Make the very most of the last days of summer by enjoying the greenery and natural beauty of Mosaïculture, perfect for everything from family outings to date night.
Carp Fair (September 20 to 23)
Now, what’s saying hello to fall without stopping in at the annual Carp Fair? Known as the best little fair in Canada, you’d be surprised how much fun and excitement can be found here — just a short drive away from Stittsville and our own Valecraft community, Rathwell Landing! Take to the midway rides and carnival games, indulge your sweet tooth and grab a cotton candy (or three), and enjoy all sorts of fun events! From derby night to live music and even a good old-fashioned rodeo, there’s something fun for visitors of all ages. Be sure to make the trip out for the Carp Fair when it rolls into town — you won’t regret it.
Ottawa International Animation Festival (September 26 to 30)
With parties, exhibits, screenings, and so much more, the 2018 Ottawa International Animation Festival is one great big celebration of creativity. Taking place in various locations in Ottawa including the Ottawa Art Gallery, ByTowne Cinema, and many others, this is one of the more easily-accessible events happening in the capital — residents from all over the city have more streamlined access to whichever festival events interest them. Whether you live in Rathwell Landing, Deerfield Village 2 or elsewhere, it’s never been easier to fall in love with all things animation! From short film competitions to networking opportunities, VR experiences, an animation career fair and so much more, there’s no shortage of great events to participate in. Whether you love to watch animation, have a passion for the medium, or even create your own content and want expert advice, this is a fun festival for everyone!
